Parent Teacher Associations known as the PTA are a formal collection of parents within a school working together to support the school community. This group acts as the voice of parents, communicating the needs of families, the priorities of parents and advocates for students. Here is the kind of actions PTA's engage in:
hosting parent workshops
organizing activities for families—both academic and social
raising funds
running volunteer events
Spring
Participate in elections and volunteer for PTA programs.
Attend SLT Meetings and/or District Meetings representing the families at their schools.
They host fundraisers and engagements for parents that centers their interests.
The PTA is an incredible introduction to civic engagement. It is an opportunity to learn more about the school, the School District and City Policy in Education and begin to influence it as a citizen.
This is also an opportunity if you have no or little work experience to gain training in accounting, financial management & budgeting, project management, event planning, leadership and volunteer management, communications and negotiation. There are education opportunities for PTA Members to improve their skills.
