The Department of Education created the Parent Coordinator role to support parent engagement in their students' academic life. Studies show that parent engagement directly impacts student success.

The more involved parents are, the more successful a student will be.

What is a Parent Coordinator?

A Parent Coordinator is a liaison between parents, the school and the school district. This is your first point of contact when you need to solve any questions you have for the school. This role focuses on creating a welcoming environment for parents. The Parent Coordinator identifies parent and related school/community issues and works with the principal to see they are addressed in a timely manner.

Increases parent involvement in the school by working closely with all school, parent and community organizations.

Serves as facilitator for parent and school community concerns and issues including, for example, school policies or facilities issues.

Conducts outreach to engage parents in their student’s education.

Convenes regular parent meetings and events around topics of key concerns to parents.

Attends parent meetings along with the principal, where appropriate.

Works with the school parent association, where needed, to provide assistance in establishing by-laws, holding elections and conducting their affairs in accordance with Chancellor’s Regulation A-660.

Serves as a school liaison to Central and Field-based parent support staff.

Maintains ongoing contact with community organizations that are involved with providing services to the school’s educational program.

Organizes back to school and other events to increase parental and community involvement and creates a welcoming school environment to parents.

Managing your NYCSA Account

I can assist parents in creating and managing an NYC Schools Account by:

Creating accounts in person (custodial and non-custodial parents only)
Generating authorization letters, which include a unique Account Creation Code, that are sent home with students (custodial parents only)
Changing email addresses
Resetting accounts
Adding students to existing accounts (custodial and non-custodial parents only)
Removing students from accounts
Viewing account student & guardian associations
View a report of students not linked to NYCSA accounts with their respective account creation code for each custodial user

Navigating the District

If you have any issues that cannot be resolved at the school level I can help you locate the relevant support at the District level or higher or even a community support like a Community Based Organization or City Resource.

Parent Coordinators are able to connect you to relevant individuals, organizations and departments to support any need a family may have.

Host Workshops & Infosessions

Parent Coordinators can produce Parent Education opportunities that will support students educational life. These Parent Education opportunities are built around the needs of the community.
