Description: Living Environment 1 is part of the first semster of the two semester Living Environment sequence that prepares students to take the Living Environment Regents exam. This is a general survey biology course. Topics covered include the scientific method, cell biology, including diffusion, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and key organelles, and cell structures, ecology, including the levels of ecological organization, trophic interactions, symbiosis, limiting factors, ecological succession and human impact on the environment, inculding global climate change and loss of biodiversity.
Graduation Requirements Satisfied: This course satisfies 1 credit toward the Life Science requirement.

Description: Living Environment 2 alternates with Liv Env Lab 1 (SLS21) as part of the first semester of the two semester Living Environment sequence that prepares students to take the Living Environment Regents exam. This is a general survey biology course. Topics covered include the human digestive, respiratory, circulatory, nervous, endocrine, and excretory systems, including malfunctions of these systems, and how these systems work together to maintain homeostasis.
Graduation Requirements Satisfied: This course satisfies 1/2 credit toward the Life Science requirement.
SLS21QL Liv Env Lab 1 Prerequisites: ESL Level 3 or higher.

Description: This laboratory class is part of the first semester of the two semester Living Environment sequence. In this laboratory component students are introduced to laboratory equipment, techniques, and safety, and complete the microscope lab, as well as the NYS mandated labs; Diffusion, and Making Connections.

Description: Living Environment 3 is part of the second semster of the two semester Living Environment sequence that prepares students to take the Living Environment Regents exam. Topics covered in this general survey biology course include the immune system, cell division, and asexual and sexual reproduction.

Topics covered in this general survey biology course include human reproduction, growth and development, DNA structure and function, protein synthesis, genetics, biotechnology, and evolution.

SLS22QL Liv Env Lab 2 Prerequisites: Liv Env 1 and 2
Corequisites: Taken together with Liv Env 3 (SLS43) and Liv Env 4 (SLS44) as a doulbe-period class.

Description: This laboratory class is part of the second semester of the two semester Living Environment sequence. This laboratory component includes the NYS mandated labs, Biodiversity, and the Beaks of Finches, and introduces students to dichotomous keys.
